This fly fishing adventure will take you to Mongolia’s Darhad Valley to fish the Khug (Hoogi) and the upper Shiskiid rivers. These rivers are particularly suited to fly anglers who enjoy fishing smaller rivers and streams. The dry fly fishing for lenok and grayling here is exceptional. This trip may also suit mixed groups of anglers and non-anglers who may want to horse ride or simply experience Mongolia’s unique culture and dramatic landscapes.
The Darhad Valley is one of the most dramatic landscapes in the North of Mongolia, a massive bowl of grassland, marsh, rivers and lakes, surrounded by jagged peaks and rugged wilderness. The Valley has become internationally renowned for the abundant and large Taimen that prey on the white-fish stocks of the many lakes and rivers, but often overlooked is the exceptional fly fishing for grayling and lenok, especially on the many smaller rivers and streams flowing into the valley. While the focus of this trip is on the smaller rivers and streams, it is likely that there will also be opportunities for Taimen.
For those who would like to enjoy a little more luxury than can be provided in tents, there is a boutique ger camp and ‘eco-lodge’ located on a secluded stretch of the Khug River; we can provide a quote upon request if you would like to spend part of your trip at this special camp.
